The article discusses issues related to ensuring the effectiveness of the regime of serving a sentence of imprisonment. Without strict compliance with the requirements of the regime, the system of correctional facilities for convicts cannot function. The author focuses on the fact that a separate toolkit in ensuring the regime of serving a sentence consists of its means and elements. The points of view of various scientists on the issue under consideration are analyzed and their own position regarding the classification of means and elements of ensuring the regime of serving a sentence is given.
