The article reveals the historical aspects of the emergence of the profiling method, identifies positive experience and indicates the main directions of its use. The authors analyze a comprehensive approach to the application of profiling, its practical significance, which lies in the possibility of using the results obtained in law enforcement agencies, as well as in the formation of competencies of future specialists in a specialized course in educational organizations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation.
