The article is devoted to restorative justice in places of deprivation of liberty. The relevance of its application is due to the need to improve the methods of educational work with convicts on their awareness of what they have done and their preparation for re- socialization. The basic principles of restorative justice in the execution of sentences are considered (voluntary and mandatory participation of the convicted person in the process of restorative justice; understanding the causes and circumstances of the crime; interaction with victims; support for the social reintegration of convicts). The methods of applying restorative justice in places of deprivation of liberty are analyzed. It is stated that restorative justice is a concept that offers an alternative approach to the execution of sentences and rehabilitation of convicts. Restorative justice includes not only the management of crime and the punishment of convicts, but also the active involvement of all stakeholders (convicts, victims, society) in the process of conflict resolution and the restoration of justice. Joint efforts of the Government, institutions of the penal system, the public and experts are needed to develop and expand the use of restorative justice in places of deprivation of liberty. This requires the introduction of new approaches and practices, professional development of the staff of the penal system and a change in public opinion about punishment and rehabilitation.
