The article considers an unconventional approach to the activities of the operational service of the penal system by using methods and tactics of operational units of such an effective, but often in practice unreasonably neglected, means of correcting convicts as labor. A specific method of involving operational staff of the penal system in creating favorable conditions for the implementation of the considered means of correcting convicts is proposed.
