At present, the task of using the wide potential of penology and penitentiary sci- ence and their representatives on the issues of effective counteraction to crime and execution of punishments is particularly urgent. In the context of globalization the correction of the objectives of criminal punishment, the principles of penitentiary policy, means and methods of execution of criminal sanctions are of great importance. Taking into account the processes taking place in the Russian society, the penal science should focus on the development of the penitentiary system which would combine humanistic approaches to the execution of punishment taking into account the peculiarities of the Russian reality, the continuity of practice, the requirements of strengthening the rule of law, as well as real resource opportunities.
