The article analyzes the issues of educational work with those sentenced to punishments and measures of a criminal nature not related to deprivation of liberty. Attention is drawn to the fact that over the past ten years the number of convicts in penitentiary institutions has significantly decreased, while there is a gradual increase in persons subjected to alternative punishments. This, in turn, is a definite message to the penal enforcement system of the Russian Federation, since the urgency of reformatting the organization of the activities of its constituent institutions and bodies is increasing. According to the author, it is extremely important in modern conditions to develop a new approach to the procedures for the correction of convicts in conditions of their freedom, as well as to improve the penal enforcement legislation in terms of educational work with persons registered in the penal inspection.
