The article discusses the main problems faced by prisoners sentenced to correctional labor who are disabled or have serious illnesses during the submission of applications for release due to illness. In order to identify the existing problems, the analysis of judicial practice was carried out, the features of working with sick convicts in foreign countries were considered: the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Uzbekistan. As a result of the conducted research, the author comes to the conclusion that it is necessary to expand the powers of employees of penal enforcement inspections in order to more effectively protect the rights and legitimate interests of persons sentenced to correctional labor who are disabled or have other serious illnesses, as well as, taking into account the best practices of foreign countries, it is expedient at the legislative level to revise the categories of persons for whom correctional labor is not may be assigned due to their health status.
