The article deals with the problem of recidivism, the scale of which has become threatening in the Russian state. The main causes of repeat criminality have been identified and analyzed. It has been proven that the country’s existing rehabilitation centers for former convicts are characterized by low efficiency. From theoretical, legal and practical positions, the conclusion is substantiated that it is necessary to create and operate private adaptation centers for persons released from correctional institutions. The main activities of the proposed institutions, the specifics of their work, advantages over state and municipal adaptation centers are considered in detail. The author’s position on the broad practical importance of private adaptation centers aimed at the full protection of the rights and freedoms of former convicts and their early social rehabilitation through the provision of a range of services (social, material, medical, socio-legal, pedagogical) is argued.
